South African Caster Semenya is 18 years old, and looks for all the world like she could play in the Oakland Raiders backfield.
That’s right. I said SHE.
Semenya won the women’s 800 meter run at the World Track and Field Championships in Berlin this week. She’s also got to take a test to prove that she is, indeed, a woman.
Her coach, her family and everyone else close to her says there is no doubt. And mind you, my wife has taken me to task for even daring to think otherwise (Rachel’s a saint; I’m the cynical sinner). In any event, the test results are due within a few weeks. But for now at least, Semenya has the gold medal. More power to her.
